1.  Introduction

ES_StmNzle and ES_StmPipe are the programs to verify the effectiveness of the compressible flow analysis method of steam developed by ENGSoft Inc.

The programs have been programmed in accordance with the method described in Clause 5 of Compressible Flow Analysis of Steam web page.   As described in "ES_StmNzl and ES_StmPipe Program Test Results" web page, the effectiveness of the unique methods developed by ENGSoft Inc. has been verified as correct and acceptable.

The programs are provided for download in this web site for users to test the method by themselves and to use for simple calculation.

Meanwhile, ES_StmNzl and ES_StmPipe may be used for simulation of high energy condensate drain piping with a restriction orifice discharging into a low pressure system, such as condenser, atmospheric drain tank, etc.   First, simulate the drain piping from the orifice to the low pressure system using ES_StmPipe, and then the orifice may be simulated by ES_StmNzl.   Since orifice is more restrictive than nozzle, the throat area of actual orifice should be greater than that of nozzle simulated.   If the resistance orifice is procured from manufacturers, the upstream pressure(Loc.1) simulated by ES_StmPipe shall be given to the manufacturers as the downstream pressure of orifice for their sizing.

In the latest version of software, the calculation for ideal gas has been deleted.   A separate software for ideal gas calculation is envisaged to come later.

 

2. How to Use (TOC)

2.1 ES_StmNzl

ES_StmNzl program is a single screen program as shown below.

The program calculates the steam conditions and mass flow rate per unit area at nozzle throat with nozzle inlet conditions (stagnated condition at Loc. 1) and exit pressure known.   The inlet stagnated steam condition should be entered by [Steam Table] command button.

In the latest version, [Set the current units as default] menu has been provided to fix permanent units as desired.

 

2.2 ES_StmPipe

ES_StmPipel program is a single screen program as shown below.

The program calculates the steam conditions at pipe inlet(Loc. 1) and outlet(Loc. 2) with the followings known.

1)

Stagnated steam conditions(velocity = 0), whatever the location is.

2)

Pipe exit pressure

3)

Pipe resistance coefficient(K)

4)

Mass flow rate

5)

Pipe cross-sectional area

The stagnated steam condition should be entered by [Steam Table] command button.

In the latest version, [Set the current units as default] menu has been provided to fix permanent units as desired.
